Madagascar Is On Fire
Filed in in Film News

GeeraffMadagascar, the new animated film from Dreamworks, has climbed to the US cinema top spot in it’s second weekend after reeling in $28.7 million from 4,142 theatres. The family comedy has already collected $100.97 million in its first ten days.

The story is about four zoo animals from New York’s Central Park Zoo, who set out on a journey to find their missing friend and somehow find themselves aboard a ship en-route to Madagascar.  Unbelievable, but still an incredibly good plot.

What an all-star cast this film has, it’s generally top drawer all around! Ben Stiller (DVDs) is the Lion, Chris Rock (DVDs) is the Zebra, David Schwimmer (DVDs) is the giraffe and, somehow, petite hottie Jada Pinkett Smith (DVDs) provides the voice of the hippo.

One has to say that it is glorious casting, for securing two of the funniest men of American comedy, Ben Stiller and the underrated David Schwimmer. Let’s not forget loud-mouthed Chris Rock, but the most welcomed and most overlooked star must be Sacha Baron Cohen, better known as Ali G (DVDs), aiight! But when will we finally see a film with just Borat, the unforgettable Kazakhstani television personality? C’mon Sacha, you’re neglecting your best character.

However, expect to see more of this undoubted master of laughs, because Sacha is starring in an up coming film called Dinner for Schmucks. Watch out for that one!

Madagascar has already beaten Adam Sandler’s The Longest Yard and George Lucas’s Star Wars: Episode III.  Basically, it’s sweeping the floor with all the competition.

It’s all a matter of super cute animated African animals, put together with the super-talents of comedy. The film has been said to be for kids, but as usual, adults have been pouring into the cinemas in massive quantities.

The film is set for release in Europe later this month, and should be a stellar hit when it comes across the Atlantic.  Madagascar is top-notch entertainment for all the family, and doesn’t that just sound so wholesome and nice, eh?

But expect the cinemas to be so full of children that you may just want to stay home and read about preventative pregnancy operations.

Madagascar is released in the UK on June 24th.
